Meet Reyna Bryan, a rising star in a very dirty world. She made her name by founding Recycling is Sexy, an organization that is building an army of superhero consumers: Empowered, Informed and Vocal. She has a passion for helping us keep this beautiful world in one piece as all signs point to the fact that we are polluting ourselves out of it. Reyna sees the world in a different way than many of us. As she once told me, when she walks into a grocery store, it’s very difficult not to walk right out cursing all of the packaging that will one day end up in a landfill. She is trying to stop the madness through her example, her sustainability work and through creating an army of superheroes so that we can all make informed decisions. This is a deep one; I hope you enjoy it!
Today we talk about:
- How Reyna became connected to the earth at a young age
- The influence of Buddhism on Reyna’s path
- Breaking habits: why people STILL don’t recycle
- The process of recycling
- Zero waste: how to leave the smallest impact possible on the world
- Ocean acidification – by the year 2050, plastics in the ocean will outweigh the fish
- How to make change:
- Get curious about materials
- Contact the brands you buy and let them know you care
Reyna is such a special person with a big and heavy mission. But she can’t do it alone. To learn more about what she’s up to, go to her website recyclingis.sexy. If you want to make a difference, contact the brands you buy. As she says, this actually helps. Once they realize that people care, they tend to make decisions that take into account the life cycles of their products. And finally – I love her final nugget. Get in touch with what you’re called to do. And then GO DO IT!
